Biography

Natalie May is a fully qualified psychotherapist with over 5 years post qualification clinical experience. Natalie works primarily with adolescents aged 12+. She is experienced in a wide range of presenting issues such as low self-esteem, sexual orientation, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, loss and separation. She also currently works part time for a large organization providing crisis intervention counselling for clients presenting with self harm and/or suicidal ideation. Her counselling style is both person centered and integrative as well as being strength based and goal orientated.

Natalie involves parents in the therapy from the offset by including them in the goal setting process and providing regular progress feedback. As no two clients are the same, her approach is tailored to the individual clients needs. A variety of different tools and approaches are drawn on depending on the clients presenting issues. Some examples include: CBT, Mindfulness, Choice Theory, Gestalt.

Natalie provides a safe and supportive space for her adolescent clients where they can learn about who they are and process their feelings around their presenting issues. Empowerment of the adolescent client is an essential part of Natalie’s approach. Once trust is established, the aim of therapy is to help the client to achieve their agreed goals by providing them with the necessary tools and a workable plan to follow. Choices and their consequences are explored and clients are encouraged to make their own decisions. Natalie aims to teach adolescent clients positive and healthy coping skills that they can take with them once therapy ends. These long lasting positive life skills are tools that the adolescent client can continue to use as they move into adulthood.
