Biography

Claire has a BA in Fine Art Installation, video and performance work from NCAD Dublin and an MA in Fine Art from Sheffield  University. She qualified as an art psychotherapist from Sheffield Hallam University in 1998, having trained as a counsellor in Berkshire Training Agency, Reading University. She has worked as a community artist, youth counsellor, art psychotherapist,  clinical supervisor and arts therapies trainer. She is an occasional lecturer at CIT, having been a core tutor on the art therapy MA in CIT and for the past 4 years has run the Principles of Art Therapy Course in Dublin franchised from CIT and hosted by CTC. She has a long established private practice in Kildare Town and most recently in Primary Care Psychotherapy in Naas, where she works with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and adolescents and adults with mental health difficulties. She is a qualified clinical supervisor, providing support to therapists working within social and healthcare settings. She has  worked within 2 adult psychiatric hospitals, a UK CAMHS Service, Athas – the  community arts service for disability, both primary and secondary school settings  and an in patient adolescent unit. She has published articles for Eisteach, Jiacat and Inside Out and has presented at Trinity Healthcare Conferences and the 2016 DCU International Conference on Supervision. Her most recent work ‘Art in Psychotherapy: The Healing Power of Image’ was included as a chapter in the new Routledge book ‘Creative Psychotherapy: Applying the Principles of Neurodevelopment to Play and Expressive Arts based Practice.
